Republicans set to seize house control
Republicans are nearing control of the house after the recent elections, which is crucial for Donald Trump to push his agenda when he takes office in January. As of Sunday the number of secured seats (out of 435) for each party were:
Republicans: 214 seats
Democrats: 203 seats
So, Republicans only need to secure just 4 more to maintain their majority (reaching 218 seats). They have already gained control of the Senate, but the outcome of 19 races remains uncertain, particularly in competitive districts across western states.
One notable victory was Democrat Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, who successfully defended her seat in Washington state against Republican Joe Kent. Perez's background as an auto shop owner resonated with voters, helping her win.
As Republicans prepare for leadership roles in the Senate, they are also looking to implement a broad agenda that includes tax cuts and energy deregulation if they secure control of the House.
Qatar halts Israel-Hamas mediation
Qatar has suspended its mediation efforts between Israel and Hamas, citing a lack of good faith from both sides. This decision follows a breakdown in negotiations after 6 Israeli hostages were executed by Hamas in August.
Qatar believes the discussions have devolved into political maneuvering rather than genuine attempts to achieve peace. With 101 hostages still held in Gaza and rising casualties, the future of peace talks is uncertain.
Israeli officials have criticized Qatar's role, suggesting it has acted more as a supporter of Hamas than as a neutral mediator. The situation remains tense, with ongoing violence and humanitarian concerns escalating in the middle east.
Abortion access and Trump 2nd presidency
Abortion rights advocates are celebrating victories in 7 states where pro-abortion measures passed, but they warn that a second Donald Trump presidency could threaten access to abortion nationwide. Experts like Kelly Baden emphasize that the current crisis in abortion access may worsen under Trump, especially in the 13 states that have banned abortion.
Many voters may not realize that a federal abortion ban could override state protections, potentially leading to more dangerous situations (even deaths) for women seeking care.
The Trump administration could also target medication abortions by limiting access to a key drug used for terminating pregnancies. While Missouri has approved a pro-abortion rights initiative, the absence of clinics means women may still need to travel out of state for care.

📱 Racist text messages being sent out to many Black Americans referencing slavery following Donald Trump win. The text messages used slavery imagery and told the recipients — including school-aged children and college students — that a van would take them to a plantation. The texts appear to mostly be sent to Black recipients, and it is unknown where the numbers were obtained or if non-Black recipients were also contacted.

Ukraine attacks Moscow with 34 drones, the biggest strike on the capital of Russia. Russian air defenses destroyed another 50 drones over other regions of Western Russia on Sunday, the defense ministry said. Trump, who takes office in January, said during campaigning that he could bring peace in Ukraine within 24 hours, but has given few details on how he would seek to do this.
How Microwave Ovens Work?
Microwave ovens are one of the most popular kitchen appliances. They allow us to quickly heat up food, cook 🍲 meals, and even pop 🍿popcorn! But have you ever wondered how they actually work?
At the heart of every microwave oven is a special device called a magnetron. The magnetron takes ⚡ electricity from the power outlet and converts it into microwaves. When you turn on your microwave oven, the magnetron begins to produce these waves.
Once the magnetron generates microwaves, they need to be directed into the cooking chamber where your food is placed. This is done using a part called the waveguide, which acts like a tunnel that carries the microwaves from the magnetron into the 👨🍳 cooking area. The cooking chamber is where you place your food. It is usually made of metal, which helps keep the microwaves inside.
When you close the door of the microwave oven, it creates a sealed environment where the microwaves can bounce around and cook your food evenly. When you put food in the microwave and start it, here’s what happens: The microwaves enter the food and are absorbed by 💧💧 water molecules, fats, and sugars.
When these molecules absorb microwaves, they start to vibrate rapidly, creating 🔥heat. Unlike traditional ovens that heat food from the outside in, microwaves can penetrate deeper into food. This means they can heat food more evenly and quickly.
💥 Physics lecture on micro “waves“
Microwaves are a type of electromagnetic radiation, which means they are waves of energy that travel through space. You might have heard of other types of electromagnetic waves, like 📻 radio waves (used for 🎧 music and news) and light waves (which we see with our eyes). Microwaves fall between these two on the electromagnetic spectrum. The microwaves used in microwave ovens operate at a frequency of about 2.45 gigahertz (GHz). This frequency is perfect for cooking food because it is absorbed well by water, fats, and sugars.

Ante's Fight Against Heart Failure
On June 15th, Ante's world was turned upside down when he received the devastating news of his diagnosis with Stage 4 Congestive Heart Failure. Once a healthy athlete who played lacrosse and football throughout high school, this sudden shock left his family grappling with the reality that he would undergo surgery on November 7th to have a defibrillator implanted in his heart.
This critical step is intended to slow the frequency of his heart stopping as they anxiously await a life-saving heart transplant. Before his diagnosis, Ante worked in construction but has been unable to continue working since June due to his condition. Genetic testing revealed that he carries the highly aggressive Titan mutant gene, which is attacking his heart more rapidly than expected.
Now, more than ever, support is needed. Every dollar donated and each item purchased will go directly toward Ante's ongoing care and the funds necessary for his future heart transplant and year-long recovery out of state.
If you are willing to donate, you can head over to Ante’s campaign on GoFundMe.
