The new era of generating videos with AI

🎥 OpenAI has launched its super realistic AI video generator called Sora, which is now available to everyone in the United States. This tool allows users to create videos just by typing a description, like "a family of mammoths in a desert".

Google has announced a major breakthrough in quantum computing with its new chip called Willow. This chip can solve complex problems in just 5 minutes, a task that would take the fastest supercomputers about 10 septillion years 🤯, much longer than the age of the universe!

⚛ Willow has 105 qubits, which are special units that help quantum computers work faster than traditional ones. Google aims to use quantum computers for important tasks like drug discovery and improving battery technology.

📉 The company has also made progress in reducing errors that often happen in quantum computing. By connecting qubits in a new way, Google can correct mistakes as they occur, making the technology more reliable. This achievement is a big step toward creating practical quantum computers that could change how we solve difficult problems in the future.

Parents are suing character ai

⚖ Two families have filed a lawsuit against character ai, claiming that the platform exposed their children to harmful content and encouraged dangerous behaviors. The lawsuit, filed in Texas, argues that character.ai presents a serious risk to young users, leading to issues like self-harm, depression, and even thoughts of violence.

One example included a chatbot suggesting to a teenager that he could harm his parents 😲 for limiting his screen time. The lawsuit follows another case where a mother blamed character ai for her son’s suicide, alleging that the AI bots manipulated him emotionally.

💬 Character.ai allows users to chat with various AI personalities, but many interactions have raised concerns about inappropriate content. The families are asking the court to shut down the platform until it can ensure safety for minors. In response, character ai has stated that it is working on new safety measures to protect young users.

Microsoft AI CEO, Mustafa Suleyman, predicts that artificial general intelligence (AGI) could be achieved within 5 to 7 years, but he believes it will require more advanced hardware than currently available, specifically stating that it cannot be done with Nvidia's GB200 chips. This contrasts with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman's view that AGI is achievable with existing technology by 2025.

Reddit has introduced an AI-powered search feature called "Reddit Answers", allowing users to find information directly from the platform without using Google. This feature provides summarized responses to questions from discussions across public subreddits, presenting multiple bullet points linked to original threads for context. It is currently in beta for a limited number of US users.
