GROK
Grok 3 is released with many new features

What’s going on: xAI has finally unveiled Grok 3 alongside enhancements for the Grok app on iOS and the web. Grok 3 is designed to compete with models like OpenAI's GPT-4o and Google's Gemini. Within the Grok app, users can leverage Grok 3's reasoning through features like "Think" for general queries, and "Big Brain" mode for more complex problems. They have also shipped a feature called “SuperGrok” which unlocks additional reasoning and DeepSearch queries, and unlimited image generation.
What does it mean:
The launch of Grok 3 puts xAI alongside industry leaders like OpenAI, Gemini, Anthropic, and DeepSeek. Grok can now reason, generate and analyze images, solve complex mathematical problems, perform deep research, and also search the web, all in one package. However, it is not fully released and many users have not gotten their hands on it, so we can’t know how well it performs until enough users try it.
More details:
Access to Grok 3 is initially exclusive to subscribers of X's Premium+ tier at $50 per month, with additional features locked behind a new SuperGrok plan at $30 per month or $300 per year.
xAI introduced "DeepSearch," a feature aimed at providing AI-powered research capabilities, similar to what OpenAI, Google, and Perplexity offer with their deep research tools.
The model has reportedly surpassed the performance of o3-mini-high on several benchmarks, including the GPQA and AIME 2025 for mathematics. Early versions of Grok 3 have also performed well (No. 1) in crowdsourced evaluations like Chatbot Arena.
Looking forward, xAI plans to introduce voice mode to Grok and make the models available through an enterprise API.
AI RACE
Germany is losing the AI race to China and US
Source: AI Business
What’s going on: Most of the times, we talk about advancements in AI. But now, we want to understand why some of the top countries are falling behind in the fast-paced world of AI? Germany is one of those countries. Despite its significant position in traditional sectors like automotive and engineering, the country faces challenges in AI due to lower investment levels, a cautious approach to data usage driven by stringent privacy laws, and an educational system not fully aligned with the demands of AI innovation. This situation contrasts sharply with the more aggressive AI strategies of countries like the US and China.
What does it mean: Germany's slower pace in AI development could have long-term implications for its industrial leadership and economic competitiveness. For instance, the main reason behind Volkswagen, BMW, and Mercedes not being able to catch up with Tesla is underestimating AI and lack of sufficient financial support from the government. Germany risks falling further behind in technological innovation, which might lead to a brain drain as AI experts seek opportunities elsewhere.
More details:
There is an urgent need for Germany to adopt a more robust, coordinated strategy that balances ethical considerations with the need for rapid AI advancement.
Government efforts to promote AI are in place, but these are often hampered by bureaucratic processes and a conservative stance on data usage.
Universities in Germany are beginning to adapt by introducing more AI-focused curricula, but the challenge lies in both expanding these programs and keeping graduates within the country.
Despite these challenges, Germany has pockets of AI excellence, particularly in areas like sustainability and automotive technology.

🚀 Mistral, French AI startup, has released a new regional AI model specifically tailored for Arabic language and culture.
💻 Nous Research has introduced DeepHermes-3, an AI model that merges reasoning with language capabilities, enabling users to switch between detailed, step-by-step reasoning processes and quicker, less resource-intensive responses. It is optimized for consumer hardware and runs on a MacBook Pro M4 Max!
🐋 DeepSeek, the controversial Chinese AI startup, is expanding its business scope to include "internet information services", signaling a potential shift towards monetization.
🩺 Researchers at the Icahn School of Medicine have developed an AI-based screening tool that has dramatically sped up the enrollment process for a heart failure clinical trial. This tool allowed them to enroll 200 patients in just 13 months, compared to an expected 24 months using traditional methods.
