What’s going on: Google is creating a new team of AI experts to build powerful AI that can accurately simulate the real world. This means the AI could understand and recreate things like how objects move, how people interact, and even how entire environments function. The technology previously developed for Veo (Google’s video generator), Gemini (Google’s AI chatbot), and Genie (Google’s virtual world model generator) will be used for this project.

What does it mean: This kind of AI could have many amazing applications. Imagine an AI system that can create incredibly realistic video games and movies, or help scientists understand complex natural phenomena and dynamic systems such as weather and biological processes. It could also be used to train robots to perform tasks in the real world more effectively.

• This new team at Google will be led by a top AI researcher who previously worked on a leading video generation AI in Google’s DeepMind lab, Tim Brooks.

• Development of such technology raises concerns about job displacement in creative industries like filmmaking and game development.

• Other game studios like Activision Blizzard are using AI to accelerate their production process and increase productivity.

• Animation Guild, a union representing Hollywood animators and cartoonists, estimated that over 100,000 US-based film, television, and animation jobs will be affected by AI by 2026.

What’s going on: At CES 2025 in Las Vegas, Nvidia unveiled Project Digits, a “personal AI supercomputer” that provides access to the Grace Blackwell hardware platform in a little desktop box. According to Jensen Huang, Nvidia’s CEO, Project Digits can run the entire Nvidia AI stack. It is also a cloud computing platform that sits on your desk and it even can be considered as a workstation.

What does it mean: Technologies like “Project Digits” can literally change how we live and how we work. Imagine a world where there is a supercomputer capable of building huge AI models on the desk of every AI researcher, data scientist and student in the world. Well, we are only 5 months away from living in that world! The amount of discoveries and innovation that’ll be the result of the availability of such technology is going to be mind-boggling.

• Project Digits packs Nvidia’s new GB10 Grace Blackwell Superchip, which provides up to a petaflop of computing performance for building, fine-tuning, and running AI models.

• Nvidia claims a single Project Digits unit can run models up to 200 billion parameters in size. Two Project Digits machines can be linked together to run models with up to 405 billion parameters.

• A Project Digits box, offers 128 gigabytes of memory and up to 4TB of flash SSD storage.

• Project Digits machines are not going to be cheap. They run Nvidia’s Linux-based DGX OS, and will be available starting in May for $3,000.

📽 Avataar, Gen-AI powered content platform, released a new tool yesterday called Velocity. It creates product videos directly based on a product link. The company is a serious competitor of Amazon and Google that are also using AI to generate video ads.

🖥 Nvidia revealed its next generation of GeForce RTX GPUs in CES 2025. Stunning visual realism, 2x performance increase, and price reduction by the factor of 3 were all made possible by AI technologies such as neural shaders and DLSS 4, according to Nvidia’s CEO.

📰 Google is launching a new feature on its AI-powered TV operating system that can summarize news for you. You can ask Gemini on your TV to play your “News Brief”. Gemini will scrape news stories and YouTube video headlines posted by trusted news channels and will produce your summary.

👨‍💻 Nvidia is open-sourcing a family of world models that can generate “physics-aware” videos. The company is calling this family Cosmos World Foundation Models. The models are available from Nvidia’s API, GitHub, and Hugging Face AI dev platform.

📱 Therabody, the popular massage gun maker, just announced that it’s launching a new AI-powered digital recovery platform called “Coach”. Coach combines user data with generative AI to provide personalized real-time recovery plans based on users’ goals, health metrics, and activity levels.

🤖 NVIDIA announced Nemotron model families to advance agentic AI. Open Llama Nemotron large language models and Cosmos Nemotron vision language models can support a new generation of AI agents and will give developers the ability to build agents that can analyze and respond to text, images, and video.
