META
People have made AI chatbots imitating Taylor Swift and Hitler
Source: NBC News
What’s going on: Last year, Meta released a tool called “AI Studio” that allows anyone to create an AI character to chat with on Instagram, Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp. However, many users have created and published numerous chatbots on Meta’s platforms that violate its rules. There are more than twenty chatbots with names resembling Jesus Christ, God, Taylor Swift, Donald Trump, MrBeast, Adolf Hitler, Justin Bieber, and Elon Musk.
What does it mean: Many people chat with AI on a daily basis and the number of them is only increasing. The problem is, when there is a chatbot with the name “Jesus” and has already exchanged more than 644,000 direct messages with people, it certainly has a potential to cause many social/ethical problems. Some people might actually ‘believe’ what these AI personas tell them, which can be dangerous. For instance, a Florida mom tragically lost his 14-year-old son to suicide in October, 2024 and she believed her son was negatively influenced by an AI character built by a chatbot company called Character.AI.
More details:
People are not allowed to create characters of religious figures, real-life people, people who have died in the past 100 years, or characters imitating trademarked fictional characters with Meta’s AI Studio.
Meta has taken down the individual accounts mentioned above. However, other AI characters resembling figures and characters are still active on the platform.

New AI predicts autoimmune disease progression with up to 40x accuracy
Source: New Scientist
What’s going on: Researchers at PennState university have developed a technique called “Genetic Progression Score” (GPS) using AI to predict the progression of autoimmune diseases from preclinical symptoms to full disease. This model combines genetic data and electronic health records to provide personalized risk scores. In comparison with the existing models, this method is between 25% and 1,000% more accurate in determining whose symptoms would move to advanced disease.
What does it mean: The GPS tool is like a special map that shows who might get very sick from an autoimmune disease. It uses information about a person's genes and their health records to make a prediction. This helps doctors find people who are at high risk early on, so they can get the right treatment sooner.
More details:
The GPS model outperformed 20 other existing methods, significantly improving prediction accuracy.
GPS uses "transfer learning," a technique where an AI model is trained on one task and then fine-tuned for another.
Autoimmune diseases cause the body's immune system to attack healthy cells. They often have a preclinical stage with mild symptoms or specific antibodies in the blood. Early detection and intervention are crucial for better outcomes.
