Historic declines in fentanyl overdose cases

Recent data from the (CDC) shows that drug overdose deaths in the U.S. have ๐Ÿ“‰dropped significantly, marking the largest decrease ever recorded. In the past year, about 97,000 people died from overdoses ๐Ÿ˜ข, a decline of 14.5% compared to the previous year.

This reduction translates to over 16,000 lives saved and is the lowest number of drug deaths seen in nearly 4 years.

Experts believe several factors contributed to this decline, including

  • better access to addiction treatment

  • wider use of naloxone, a medication that can reverse opioid overdoses

Additionally, some areas are seeing less potent forms of ๐Ÿ’‰ fentanyl on the streets. However, funding and focus on addiction treatment may diminish, particularly in communities of color where overdose rates remain high.

New Pentagon report on UFOs

The Pentagon's recent report on UFOs reveals over 700 new sightings, but it finds no proof of ๐Ÿ‘ฝ alien life. The report covers incidents reported between May 2023 and June 2024, including many misidentified as balloons, ๐Ÿฆbirds, or ๐Ÿ›ฐ satellites.

Notably, there was a near-miss between a commercial plane and an unidentified object off New York's coast. While public interest in UFOs is ๐Ÿ”บ growing, the government stresses that its investigations focus on potential ๐Ÿ’€ threats to air safety and national security, not extraterrestrial possibilities.

The All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), which tracks these cases, has said that none of the cases indicate alien activity. Of the 757 reports, nearly 300 have been explained, but 21 remain mysterious.

People are leaving X for Bluesky

๐Ÿฆ‹ Bluesky, a new social media platform, is experiencing ๐Ÿ“ˆ rapid growth as users leave X (formerly Twitter) following Donald Trump's victory. In just one week, Bluesky gained about 2.5 million new users ๐Ÿ‘, bringing its total to over 16 million.

This surge is fueled by dissatisfaction with X's content and upcoming changes to its terms of service, which critics argue could limit legal accountability for the platform. Many well-known organizations and personalities, including the Guardian and former CNN anchor Don Lemon, have left X due to concerns over misinformation and ๐Ÿคฌ hate speech.

On November 6, the day after the election, X saw a โšก spike in traffic with 46.5 million visits but also faced a significant ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ exodus, with more than 115,000 users deactivating their accountsโ€”the highest number since Elon Musk acquired the platform.

Despite its smaller user base compared to X and Threads, Bluesky is positioning itself as a ๐Ÿ˜‡ calmer alternative for those seeking a different online experience free from aggressive content.

How GPS Works?

Source: geotab.com

GPS or Global Positioning System which was originally developed by the U.S. military, is a technology that helps us find our exact location on Earth. It uses a network of at least ๐Ÿ›ฐ 24 satellites orbiting our planet. These satellites send signals down to GPS receivers, which are found in devices like smartphones and car navigation systems.

When a ๐Ÿ“ฒ GPS receiver picks up signals from at least 4 satellites, it can calculate where you are by measuring how โŒš long it took for the signals to reach it.

The way GPS works is based on a method called trilateration. Each satellite sends out a unique signal that includes its ๐ŸŒ location and the โฐ time the signal was sent. The GPS receiver uses this information to determine the distance from each satellite. By combining the distances from multiple satellites, the receiver can pinpoint its location in three dimensions: latitude, longitude, and altitude.
